There are few things in life more satisfying than snuggling up with a young child and a good book. So much is transferred during these few precious moments — an overwhelming wave of love, calm, joy and anticipation. More than the specifics of a particular book, a baby or young child begins to associate love with learning. Why? Because I am going to read to you and I will do so because I treasure you, the child. And in this process, I will bring you into this fabulous world of imagination with me and we will learn everything under the sun — together.
This is where Stuart Brent's Children's Book Club comes in. We help you find kid's books and literature for your child that gives life and meaning to your "reading adventure" with your child. We help you locate the important baby and toddler books to add to your child's library. Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Godparents, Special Adults — we help you be a constant presence in your special child's life. Every month, your toddler or baby will receive a wonderful book from you, beautifully gift wrapped and personalized with their name emblazoned on the top, to be read again and again. Even if you are miles away, you can be felt as if you were there, in those intimate moments of reading and sharing that will always be remembered and treasured for one important reason, because the book for your baby came from you.
People often ask if a baby is too young to be included in The Stuart Brent Children's Book Club. We think babyhood is when it really counts. Studies have shown that children who are read to as babies and toddlers learn to read more easily. Consequently they tend to do better in school. Usually the kids in CBC read the books we send until the spines crack. These books make for unique gifts for kids and can be included in gift baskets for kids that they will always cherish and value.
IN A NUTSHELL: Here's how it works:
THE WAY IT WORKS:
Each month, our team of experienced booksellers, led by Amy Brent, will select a book of enduring value specifically for your special child. We do not do mass mailings. We will then gift wrap the book and when it is ready to be shipped directly to the child, we bill your credit card. There is no contract, you pay for nothing in advance. We think you will be so pleased with our service, we won't need a contract. FYI, we have second generation children in CBC.
HOW WE WORK:
We base our first choice on a combination of our experience and information you provide upon subscription. Subsequent choices are based upon answers to the questionnaire sent along with the first book (questionnaires are also available online), your child's responses to the books sent (see "Reply Cards") and our input as experienced booksellers. All books are returnable at any time for any reason. Currently we have about a .5% return rate.
WHY IT WORKS:
Most of the big bookstores boast about the tremendous number of titles displayed on their shelves and for the lucky shopper who knows exactly what he or she wants, that is a great advantage. But for the majority of us who wish to find something special for the children in our lives, but don't know exactly what we want, it is very difficult. This is where SBCBC comes in. We help you find the books that give life and meaning to your "reading adventure" with your child. We help you locate the important books to add to your child's library. The Stuart Brent Children's Book Club
To everyone's awe and amazement, that sharp little eight, nine or ten year old in your life has blasted through all the Harry Potters in record time. Now what?? How can you possibly find a kid's book that good again? Narnia? Middle Earth? You know all these children's books, but there must be more. How to find them? And then present them to that adorable whippersnapper as a special gift for your child that comes in the mail, beautifully gift wrapped and personalized books with their name on the books, with all the promise of thrilling adventure that comes with it. You enroll them in The Stuart Brent Children's Book Club, that's how! We've been weeding through the millions of books available to find the great ones for years and make book club recommendations
We get it. It's difficult to find kid's books for those very young, very proficient readers. Find more information on Gifted Readers. It's hard to keep up with them. Middle schoolers can read the books so fast, and you want to encourage this very important, very special talent. It's such a marvelous re-affirmation of faith in the human mind. (And it just makes you so proud of your kid!) Most kids are busy with computer games, and you have the rare child who really likes to read. At the same time, because this child is so young, you don't want inappropriate or adolescent themes in the books he/she is reading. All you need to do is enroll this talented child in The Stuart Brent Children's Book Club, and you will have experienced professionals scouting books and recommending books specifically for your child. If you like, you can even request to have more than one book sent per month. For many years we had one little girl who received 10 books a month!
On the other side of the coin, there are many, many children who struggle with reading. Find more information on Reluctant Readers. We have years of experience finding books and children's literature especially for them, too. We will be looking for fascinating books with alternative formats intended to tempt the reluctant reader into checking out a book just because it is so neat! The idea is to be interested in a book without realizing you're reading it, and then suddenly, you're reading it! The presentation of a Stuart Brent Children's Book Club book also helps. The kid's books come in the mail (VERY fun for children who don't usually get much in the mail), beautifully gift wrapped and personalized with their name and accompanied by a copy of The Book Club Gazette, our monthly newsletter. For more on the Gazette, click here. There is something about receiving a book in the mail that sets it apart from books taken from the library or purchased in a bookstore. We also nearly always send kid's hardcover books, reinforcing the idea that books are to be treasured.
How many people do you know whose eyes light up when they remember a book they read in childhood? So many. Perhaps even you. There is something about books loved in childhood that enshrines them in memory forever. It's that joy, that deeply satisfying joy that you want to share with the children in your life.
At SBCBC we call it "Passing on Your Passion". You love to read. You know how important a great book is when you need it; the inexplicable power of a book to change your life. Introduce those special children in your life to that marvelous experience. The SBCBC seeks to find books of intrinsic value and match them to the children who will love them.
